Too often preoccupied with life’s hectic pace, city dwellers tend to deprioritize meeting and interacting with neighbors. Despite sharing common ground people struggle to connect. Drawing on urban gardening practices and the space limitations of community housing we created Air Garden.

Edible plants move along a column outside the vertical windows of apartment complexes. Participating tenants can call the plants to their window, pick from the plants and are responsible for watering. We seek to introduce a space efficient environment, a give and take system that nurtures people to emotionally connect to their living spaces. Air Garden aims to foster indirect communication between tenants with the hope of creating a platform for connections and chance encounters.
