Cards to Save Humanity - a tool to share perspectives with family

Students: KEYUR JAIN, RACHEL LANE, BENEDICT HUEBENER, STEPHANIE LEE  ·  Year: 2017  ·  Course: Video Prototyping

In this one-week project, we used storytelling and video production as a prototyping tool to illustrate an intergenerational concept from our research. Writing out a story, visualizing it with actors and props, exploring camera angles and editing the footage can reveal gaps that may not have been apparent previously.

We used a pyramid model to capture the single idea, value and vision - necessary for compelling and coherent storytelling: illustrating core qualities that bridge the game mechanic to research insights that underpin the entire concept.

The story in our video features a young, politically active woman and her parents. When she comes home from a demonstration a heated discussion begins. As the discussions starts to escalate the young woman introduces the "Cards to Save Humanity" game. The game facilitates a fruitful discussion that results in all parties understanding each other’s points of view.
