Chromology: Time in Colour
We don't experience time in numbers. We experience time through the way we remember our lives during those times. Yet time is expressed in a linear and objective fashion in clocks and calendars. Can we make time more tangible by capturing it and representing it in a way that’s closer to how we actually experience it?
Chromology is Time in Colour. It borrows the unlock action on cell phones that we’re all familiar with to capture moments of colour that can represent preference, mood, or emotions throughout the day. By collecting these moments, a sequence of colours can be physically represented to offer an alternative take on time. Chromology pairs the digital experience of mobile with the physical experience of a visual clock that can be hung inside the home.
During this week, the team iterated through seven different prototypes. In wondering what time means for people, first prototypes included a conversation with time, revealing that time doesn't mean much to people outside of their own experiences. These prototypes moved forward and became a physical figure that can be manipulated, then a blob, then a keychain, and finally to the mobile phone for its convenience.
