Creative Coding

Faculty: 71857, 71862  ·  Year: Digital Learning  ·  Course: Online Workshops

This workshop is an introduction to creative coding, where the participants will learn how to use programming as a tool to create graphical compositions, from static to animated pieces.

Location: Online

Workshop Dates: July 12 - 16, 2021

Number of participants per workshop: 12

Faculty: Ubaldo Andrea Desiato & José Chavarria

What is the workshop?

Creating art and graphical compositions with code is a radical jump from pens and brushes. When you program, you mold systems that change in time, interact with the world, and express patterns. We will approach code, starting from the basics, as a new medium which can be playfully worked, allowing you to creatively mobilize it on the problems you face.

What will you learn?

  • A friendly JavaScript-based environment for interactive art called p5.js.

  • The fundamental tools programmers use to express patterns & interactions – tools like variables, loops, arrays, and events.

  • How to use these together to express yourself in an entirely new way.

How will you learn it?

Every day a new fundamental concept of programming will be introduced, demonstrating how it can be used to create graphical elements, patterns and animations. Each day participants will have a new creative task to experiment with, using the learned concept.

Is this for you?

If you are keen to start understanding programming and apply it in a playful and creative way, this workshop is for you. Knowledge of coding is not a prerequisite to join this workshop, just bring your creativity.

What do you need to bring to the workshop?

You only need a computer or laptop with internet connection and updated web browsers (ideally, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).
