What is this workshop?

In this hands-on workshop, we explore how designers approach interactivity at the level of the mobile device. We’ll dive into principles and best practices from a visual design point of view, guiding you to produce interactive prototypes that communicate your vision for an app or web-based mobile experience.

What will you learn?

  • How designers approach software and user interface design

  • The possibilities afforded by different types of screens with a focus on mobile

  • How to apply conceptual, collaborative approaches to low- and high-fidelity prototyping

  • The graphic design principles related to visual hierarchy, typography, colour, iconography that make information and interactivity intelligible to users

  • The tools, processes and workflows used by professional designers who design for screens

  • How to bring concepts to life through interactive, touchable prototypes

How will you learn it?

  • Discussion, brainstorming, sketching, and producing mockups with as much or as little guidance as you need.

Is this for you?

Yes, if you design or want to design for anything with a screen.

There are no prerequisites for this workshop, but some experience with visual design software like Adobe Creative Suite or Sketch will help students realise their concepts with greater ease.

What do you need to bring to the workshop?

  • A computer

  • A phone or tablet

  • Notebook & pen
