Description:
Blockchain is the next big thing, yet few seem to understand what it really is, and what it can really do. We have all heard about bitcoin, yet this cryptocurrency is just one example of what blockchain offers.
In truth, the blockchain represents the next evolution of the internet. As we shift from the internet of information to the internet of value, we, humans, are the key in shaping how this evolution takes place, and the effects this revolutionary technology can have on the global economy, ecology and society.
In this course, we will explore the real blockchain, beyond the hype and narrow focus on cryptocurrencies. We will use design thinking to delve into the tangible benefits of the blockchain, examine why decentralized technologies and governance are preferable, and look to design systems that deploy the blockchain to derive the maximum benefits for society as a whole.
This course is built around collaboration, and participants will be guided throughout the five days, accumulating knowledge and applying it. We will be marrying the best of design thinking with the key principles behind decentralized technologies like blockchain to work towards developing considered and appropriate novel applications.
Above all, students will benefit from a carefully curated applied program, designed to demystify the blockchain, open up constructive dialogue, help you think like a designer, and really practice creatively on a topic usually off limits to anyone apart from programmers!
Learning Expectations:
Each participant will:
Gain a conceptual understanding of distributed ledger technology
Practice creativity with blockchain
Understand the potential and ramifications of blockchain
Learn the benefits of the rapid iterative prototyping method
Develop skills to convey ideas
Prerequisites:
We will provide a series of videos and recommended reading
.
We advise students to bring a laptop if possible.
