Fonie is a reflection on the direction that the "Internet of Things" trend is taking and a nod to the selfie phenomenon. It was developed during our week-long workshop on physical computing.

For our prototype,  we hacked a hair-dryer to fit in a USB webcam and an Arduino Yún. When turned on, the hair-drier still blows air, but also takes a series of pictures that are then turned into an animated GIF and are uploaded to our Tumblr (hairdryerselfies.tumblr.com) through their API.

The name "Fonie" is a port-manteau for "Fono" (hair-dryer in italian) and the "selfie".
