Honoka
Climate change has caused almost irreversible damage on earth. By making small changes, we can all reduce our carbon footprint and have less of an effect on the environment. However, with such a vast problem, it is hard to imagine the implication of our everyday actions, especially if they aren't in our immediate environment.
What if you could smell your carbon footprint?
Honoka is a scent diffuser for those who want to change their current lifestyle & be more conscious of their impact on the environment. This was a 1 day speculative experiment created by the team.
How it works:
Honoka collects data in your home and monitors your consumption patterns of resources like water & electricity. At the end of the week, it calculates your total consumption and emits a whiff of scent. The idea was to create the same sense of ‘alarm’ just like when you're immediately alerted when there is something burning in your house. These smells can be positive or negative indicators of your resource consumption at home. For example: Electricity consumption is depicted on a scale between Lush forests to burning wood. When you receive a foul smell, you can go over the detailed report sent to you and take steps to change your habits in the future. If consumption is lower, you experience pleasant smells as an encouragement.
