Independent is a prescription medication tracking app that helps patients to manage their dosage in an accountable way.

Prescription medication and opioid addiction is a serious problem in many parts of the world. It is one of the focuses of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. When taking opioids and other prescription medication, it is important to take the correct dosage on time. Missing a dosage or taking an incorrect dosage can lead to severe consequences.

Independent will send you a reminder when you have to take your medicine. When you open the app, you need to measure the dosage that you are taking using the built in weight detection function in most modern smartphones screens. If you miss a dosage, a friend that you designate as an accountability buddy will receive a message. You can enter a new medicine by taking a photo of the label.

This app has gone through several cycles of iteration over a two week period. A lot of effort was spent on the initial research phase. Many of the iteration involved tweaking small interface elements to ensure that the user flow is effortless.
