For our SuperSight class, we wanted to think about how we could apply mixed reality to improve the lives of families and pets. In San Jose and other Costa Rican cities, lost or homeless pets often roam around, looking to reunite with their owners.

We created mARley, a speculative AR app that uses pet facial recognition technology to get an animal’s owner information

With mARley, users scan a pet's face to get instant information about the animal - like their name, age, if they're friendly or have special needs. Users can even know how to get in contact with the pet owner, if they find a lonely or roaming pet in the streets, looking for a way to get back home.

mARley is also a helpful tool for pet owners to remember other dogs’ information while at the dog park. Owners can quickly scan a dog’s tag, get information, and help avoid awkward moments (where both groups recognize each other, but can’t remember one another’s name!).

mARrley hopes to help every lost dog find its way home and to build community along the way.
