The two-week ‘Information Design’ course was about using visual processes to explore, interpret and find meaning in data. For the final assignment we had two days to look at our personal communication channels, be it phone call logs, Facebook messages or direct personal contact.

I decided to examine my own instant messaging behaviour, comparing different services on different days. It soon became evident that the largest difference was not to be found between individual days, but between weekdays and the weekend.

I created two designs showing my messaging behaviour depending on the time of day using one linear and one circular representation. I also sketched an earlier idea investigating the communication media used in my contact with different people.
