Motion Investigation

Students: Amalia Goutaki, Claudia Ciarpella  ·  Year: 2014  ·  Course: Experimental Imaging

During the Experimental Imaging class we had the chance to freely explore creative ways to use various photography techniques.

After a quick dive into long exposure and light painting methods, we focused our attention on the exploration of video artifacts through the use of both professional reflex cameras and iPhone cameras. More specifically, we investigated the topic of motion.

In the first video, we analyzed motion through time delay. After having recorded different subjects in motion in front of a black background, we replicated the same video for 10 times adding an incremental time delay to each layer to reveal the path of the moving object.

In the second video, we looked at the world from a different perspective. To do this we attached two iPhones to our feet and recorded different actions simultaneously. We selected and presented the act of biking as we were fascinated by the beauty of the flowing seesawing motion.
