Nafas is a family wellbeing app that helps young families be aware of their exposure to urban pollutions by making AQI numbers visible in the city map.

Every year 7 million people die because of pollution (WHO, 2014). breathing polluted air increases the risk of debilitating and deadly diseases such as lung cancer, stroke, heart disease, and chronic bronchitis. Air pollution is now the world’s fourth-leading fatal health risk, causing one in ten deaths in 2013.

In developing countries, polluted air in urban areas is increasing and requires more fundamental approaches to overcome the problem. Despite the role of government and urban management organizations, many socio-cultural reasons are a part of the problem.Considering a city like Tehran which is one of the most polluted cities of the world, the passive reaction among citizens is a noticeable social behaviour.

Nafas approaches family well-being and health through tracking the Quality of Air Index (AQI) . By making a family profile, the user can track his family members’ current locations and their exposure to pollution (EP). The details of each individual’s transportation and AQI status is trackable through the app. The daily/weekly/monthly report of the family shows the average exposure and details of the locations which have the lowest air quality. The app is a result of many iterations through a two week project including research, visual design and the app flow.
