Namdor: The spelling of Random, randomly arranged.

The concept of randomness is related to the apparent lack of relationship between events, that seems to be unpredictable and without any order. Randomness can be found in biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, and is generally related to hard sciences, however, artist have use this for a long time, in a way to take their own artistic biases out of their art, and let some of the decisions to be taken by the mysterious power of randomness.

During the 18th and early 19th century, a new musical genre emerged, called Musikalisches Würfelspiel (german for “Musical Dice Game”), in which by throwing dices, musicians (such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) will build complex musical compositions, being those builded by luck or randomness.

The purpose of Namdor is to show the user a fun way to use aleatoriety to create either an emoji or a ringtone. It starts by asking the user to flip a coin in order to choose whether it will be about making a ringtone or an emoji.

During the whole journey, it is all about asking the user to do simple things such as flipping a coin, spinning a wheel, spinning on a jackpot machine, things that are familiar to the person, in a way that takes this computational idea of the mathematical random that can be confusing.

The prototype was developed using from paper wireframes in a initial stage, then Figma to create different UI styles, and finally Framer as a more high fidelity tool, that allows the user to feel and see all the small animations, transitions, and implement actual code functionalities using React and Javascript.

The main learnings from this project are about prioritizing the main interactions to prototype and building a strong storytelling that can make the whole experience coherent, in a way that can be used as a tool to do user testing as be able to quickly make changes and deliver the best product.
