In modern days, children prefer smart devices and more screen time over physical interaction and nature’s beauty, and parents rely on having digital devices for their children as secure options.

Nanu is a product for children age 4 to 7 and is designed for them to use by themselves or with their guardians. By following the instructions in the attached booklet, they can go on an adventure of capturing images of life in nature.

Nanu is composed of 2 devices, an animal capture camera unit, and a printer for outputting the result. Once something comes close to the device, a motion sensor detects its motion and sends a signal to the Bluetooth shutter through an Arduino. Based on the captured images, a thermal printer prints the images, translating them from jpeg images into bitmap images through a Processing algorithm.

This product was created to enhance the experience of building a strong connection with their surroundings in nature by playfully guiding them.
