In a context where children are exposed to social media and the internet, a comprehensive sex education becomes a need. However, many parents fail to understand what it means/includes and prefer not to expose their children to a concept that includes the word “sex”. This often results in a lack of trust between parents and children, as well as an increase in unwanted risk scenarios. ParenTeen aims to tackle this problem by demonstrating parents the long term importance of sex education for their children’s wellbeing and providing a tool to start a conversation on these topics.

Taking into account that parents will always want the best for their children’s future, the project’s exploration had a focus on content creation. After quick interviews and iterations, the final concept landed on a card deck with open-ended questions that aim to build trustworthy on-going conversation between children and parents. The card deck includes content on: friends and family, future and interests, school and education, body and changes, sexuality and potential risks.

Despite ParenTeen being the result of a three-day exploration, I decided to move on with the project for further iterations on the context of Latin American families.
