protectAR
The exploration of augmented reality brought to mind its incredible potential. The many ways that it could be introduced into our lives for a better living and a better future. Inspired by the SDGs, gender equality was selected as an exploration point for the capability of this technology.
Harassment when walking down the street or when meeting a new person is something that is always in mind amongst women. With the increase of assaults in recent years, safety is the number one priority. Here is where protectAR could create a huge impact on the way that we currently live.
ProtectAR is a smart glasses app for women to discreetly tag creepy men. Women all around the globe can crowdsource tracking information to help to alert other women. At a simple glance, women would be able to tell if they want to start a conversation with a person or decide to avoid it and be safe.
The potential ‘Black Mirror’ consequences are also real. That’s why the project is a provocation to start the conversation and bring awareness to difficulties that women usually deal with, while also exploring the potential of AR in our lives.
