Much of our interaction with technology today takes place on screens. The dynamic flexibility of digital displays demands that we learn to apply careful judgement in how information is presented at the visual/symbolic level. By understanding the properties of screens, the conventions of common platforms, and applying basic principles of typography and graphic design, designers can ensure that interactive screen-based experiences align with the mindset and motivations of users.
In this course, participants will:
explore the possibilities afforded by different types of screens
gain an understanding of software typologies and interface "postures"
apply conceptual, collaborative approaches to low and high-fidelity prototyping
learn how to apply graphic design principles related to visual hierarchy, typography, colour and symbolic reprentation to make information intelligible
Bring designs to life by creatively exploring the basics of motion-based transitions and animated visual feedback
Prerequisites:
None, but some experience with visual design software like Adobe Creative Suite or Sketch will help students realize their concepts with greater ease.
