“This is the secret language of clutter that Kondo all but ignores. The piles of stuff we might need someday are an argument that we will always be around to need them. The plans to revisit those photos and take up again that course of study, the books we fully intend to finally read assure us that there will be enough time to do so. Mementos presume the ongoing existence of a rememberer.” (Laura Miller, writer, 2019)
People love to collect things, but without reflection and care for these things, these objects become clutter. It’s care, review and time that transform our collections into what is cherished, personal and a reminder of the past.
Scrooolll is an app that celebrates the joy of collecting and reflection. Designed for digital hoarders and collectors alike, Scroooll creates a monthly multimedia journal that is sent to users at the end of a calendar month. Users are able to scroll through information gathered from Spotify, Instagram and content created by the user (photos, voice recordings, notes, text messages).
Users are encouraged to review content they want to keep and content they want to delete. Scrooolll enables users to create an archive of the content that matters the most — and invites users to let go what's no longer relevant.
The Scrooolll also displays a linear review of their content, so users can reflect and look back at their month, seeing their content in chronological order.
In light of today’s social media addiction and the rise of the infinite scroll embedded in these apps, Scrooolll inverts the way we mindlessly scroll through content. The creator wanted to redefine the scroll gesture, by encouraging mindfulness and self-reflection, and enabling users to retrace their digital footprint and find momentos left along the way.
See what’s happened in the past 30 days. Reflect on the art that is your life. Scrooolll on.
