Shy Strands takes inspiration from Mimosa pudica, a plant with leaves that fold in when you touch them.

The prompt for this project was to create a digital model of a natural process. I found it challenging to envision a model that could be as organic and flowing as the plant itself, so many drafts and sketches were made before discovering the bezier tool and coming to the final version.

This course provided a formal introduction to programming via Processing. We were also exposed to many other concepts, such as Perlin noise, an algorithm for “natural randomness.”
