It’s the year 2036 and San Jose is celebrating its 300 year anniversary by hosting the World's Fair. CIID has commissioned SIBU to showcase Costa Rica’s biodiversity and rich cultural heritage.

A speculative design project, SIBU is a multisensorial immersive market for the visitors. In honor of its namesake, the Costa Rican God of food, SIBU promises to be a culinary experience like none other. An open air farmers market that recreates the beauty and magic of markets of yesteryears. Where agriculture and ecology co-exist symbiotically.

Visitors to SIBU at San Jose’s Sabana Park are invited to indulge in a cornucopia of goods produced around Costa Rica. The highlight of the experience is a dinner where mixed reality is deployed to create a magical environment. Such as a molecular dinner on the highest mountain of Costa Rica or a relaxing chat with one of the oldest living people in the Blue Zone.

Dinner guests are given an ‘experience concierge’ drone which they bring to an ideal spot in the park. Once seated, they place the ‘experience concierge’ on a surface nearby. This triggers the concierge to elevate and activate a holographic projection of a multisensorial dome. Transporting dinner guests to their experience of choice where they can gather, connect and learn how vital food is to us. Guests will see, smell, feel and hear the most realistic details of the experience they choose while eating and enjoying their food on tableware made of atmospheric carbon.

The best part?

Giving back to the environment as well as giving back to locals with their purchases.

For each active concierge guests will contribute towards saving tons in carbon footprint. As they dine, their concierge collects carbon released into the atmosphere.
