#SpotifyExplained is a conceptual experience inside Spotify’s Mobile App. This journey explains the user how the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning models works inside their music recommendation system.

The concept was created by merging two questions:

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are daily-use tools that simplify our lives, but how do they work?

How could this process be translated into simple steps to be explained to anyone?

The Spotify Recommendation Pipeline is a complex process that includes three main models. Each of these models are explained inside the experience with simple tasks that metaphorically imitate what the AI models –The Machine– do.

Once the users goes through these 3 “steps”, they’re able to see some recommendation results as The Machine does. 

To finish the journey, the user selects a final recommendation and these result is compared with the track that the user selected. The Machine informs the user how close the A.I. was to getting that recommendation right.

The frame of the project is to make people understand that Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are powerful technologies, but they are just tools that we control. 

We don’t need to keep up with the machine, the machine will always try to keep up with us.
