Students: JOSE AVILA, KARLA RAMONA UMAÑA HERNÁNDEZ, PRISCILLA GARITA  ·  Year: 2021  ·  Course: Constelar/Crusa - Industry Project

Constelar is an initiative that seeks to promote, facilitate and strengthen the participation of women in entrepreneurship paths focused on STEM areas in Costa Rica. Fenix is a community that lives inside Constelar and focuses on creating networking between young students and professionals.

According to the research and interviews, women inside the community want more clear and lightweight ways to participate and grow as a leaders in Fenix, because they all have busy lives. They also crave open spaces with personal and safe ways to contribute ideas and stories.

Star(t) Guide is a manual that aims to encourage frequent participation and increase ownership amongst women in STEAM that nods to their ambitions, while also recognizes their busy lives. The kit –origami star– is a symbol of uniqueness inside the big “Constelar” system.

This manual has 3 main touch points, all of which serves a framework for the community to grow and collaborate.

1) The Pin

A pride pin to signal identity, and spark connection between women. This element sparks the idea of having a physical meaningful connection with the rest of the community.

2) The folded Poster

A fun, lightweight guide for interested new members that want to learn more about Fenix and Constelar Initiative. This information piece also explains how to entice and invite collaboration to future community members.

3) The Channels QR

An entry point to simple levels of communication as ways to grow and progress in Fenix. This channels and progress are based on the concept of a reward system, supported by a digital experience that can be shared by the community members in their social media.

Star(t) Guide allowed the team to come closer to this community and understand how eager they are to grow and take empowerment inside the STEM world. That’s why the team wanted to create something that would spark shared ownership in a creative, feasible, and useful way.
