Sticky Knowledge
Should women have to pay more for products solely on the basis that they are women? An outdated marketing ploy from the 1950’s seemed to think so, and since, has continued, without the majority of society realizing it. This marketing ploy, known as the ‘Pink Tax’, charges more for products targeted at women that are the EXACT same as mens, just colored pink to appeal more to them.
This came at a time when women were thought to love nothing more than shopping, and companies therefore capitalized on that. Times have definitely changed since then, but this tax has not.
Sticky Knowledge, are stickers that alert the consumer of this marketing tactic at the point of purchase, so that they can have the knowledge to make better decisions as to how they wish to spend their money.
The stickers are applied on products using ‘guerrilla’ tactics, hopefully giving the consumer a greater sense of self by equipping them with the means to make better, more informed decisions
This project was made in hopes of correcting these small annoyances that may not seem like much by themselves, but that undermine women as a gender and chip away at their self esteem when surmounted together. Correcting things like this can help in causing systemic change, thus creating a better sense of harmony for society as a whole.
