Timescape
We live in uncertain times, deforestation brings forth problems such as global warming, soil erosion and rising ocean levels, to mention a few. However, there is more information about this threat due to the increasing number of scientific studies, real time data and campaigns globally to date. Understanding this future scenario, the project team was interested in the question: How might we facilitate travellers to have a digital time travel experience, in order to view the effect of Deforestation on a global landscape, one city at a time.
Timescape is a sensory time travel journey through cities & landscapes. Aiming to be an immersive experience, where users will begin their experience using hand gestures to select and explore destinations. They move forward by stepping on projected circles on the ground, as they move forward they journey through different centuries to see\\how it has changed over time. The installation provides 360° audiovisual content that rotates as a human body would when turning, then pan the view. Lastly, the installation will show visually relevant information like temperature, air quality and forest density changes through time.
The team used different techniques for prototyping the installation in real time, such as matching the gyroscope information of a smartphone, projecting motion graphics on the floor. All of this was done to create a sensorial and appropriate user interface, creating a 360° immersive experience of popular cities around the world.
