Unconscious
Over the years, psychologists have written theories and conducted experiments to try and analyse the human brain. A lot is still not known but some famous psychologists have spent their entire lives in pursuit of understanding why we do the things we do. However, their observations and findings are not easy to comprehend.
Unconscious is an app that aims to make the theories of Sigmund Freud more accessible to students and anyone else interested in the subject. It does so by illustrating each theory in the form of a playful ‘experiment’. For example, the experiment to show the Structural Theory of Personality uses a live camera feed with graphic overlay to show how the conscious and unconscious mind reacts to a certain situation. The other uses a number clicker component to demonstrate the Freudian Slip theory - this is based on an experiment conducted by Daniel Wegner, a psychology professor at Harvard University and the founding father of thought suppression research.
At first, the user is prompted to explore an experiment and get a sense of a theory with simple interactions. They can read more about each and get an explanation of the respective experiment. The app also gives access to other opposing ideologies that the user can dive into.
There were various tools used to achieve the final app like wireframing, user testing and softwares like Figma and Framer.
